From a rare Village parcel planted in the 1940s and 1970s called “Aux Gauthiers” located at the top of the slope (520m altitude) in the commune of Villié-Morgon. Vitrified with a percentage of stems, depending on the vintage, and fermented on ambient yeast and aged and vinified in stainless steel, without the use of SO2.

Benoit Moreau, previously the vineyard manager of Domaine Bernard Moreau in Burgundy, clearly knows his trade well. Though a just a humble “village” wine, Aux Gauthiers would undoubtedly give some Morgon Grand Cru producers a run for their money.

It is silky, blue-fruited, with a perfectly balanced structure, ample acidity, and deep complexity shifting between fruit, a sweet character, and hints of dried herbs. It’s a comfort wine if I’ve ever had one.
