Black Maple Hill Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon represents the sought-after original bottling sourced by CVI Brands and produced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers (KBD) in Bardstown, Kentucky. This release predates the brand’s shift to sourcing from Oregon.

Black Maple Hill is owned by California-based CVI Brands, which does not operate its own distillery. For this specific small batch release, CVI Brands contracted with Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, known for its association with the Willett family and distillery operations dating back to 1936. This bottling occurred before KBD began reserving its aged whiskey stocks primarily for its Willett Family Reserve brand. This Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey carries no specific age statement. The bourbon’s production followed the standards for Kentucky Straight Bourbon, originating in Kentucky. Later bottlings of Black Maple Hill were sourced from the Stein distillery in Oregon starting in 2014, making this KBD-produced version distinct.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Huge waves of corn perfume settle down after aeration with added fragrances of cotton candy, old oak, baked banana, honey and brown sugar.
  • Palate: Palate entry is honey sweet and viscous; by midpalate the sweetness gets subdued by a zesty note of spice.
  • Finish: Concludes resiny, lip-smackingly corny and sweet. (Wine Enthusiast)

This original KBD bottling of Black Maple Hill is discontinued and is considered a collectible release.
