Sangiacomo Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2021
As 2021 brought below-average rainfall to California, the quality of the grapes prospered, producing wines bursting with intense aromas, flavors, and structure. A slow and steady growing season with temperate weather, a lack of heat spikes, and mild temperatures through harvest elongated the growing season and set the stage for the grapes to achieve full phenolic flavor development while maintaining fresh, ideally bright acidity. The drier soils from bud break to harvest contributed to an average crop size of small berries with deeply concentrated flavors, resulting in a standout vintage. As always, we hand-harvested in the early morning hours during the coolest part of the day to preserve the pristine ripeness of the grapes.
Critical Acclaim
93 Wine Spectator
Succulent and aromatic, with wild fennel, pear, apricot, and lemon curd flavors that are supple, intense, and possess an appealing fleshy texture. Reveals orange blossom, grilled peach, and lemon verbena accents that linger on the finish.
93 Wine Enthusiast
Handsome oak spices and a dash of butter give a lot of flavor complexity to this medium- to full-bodied wine, as ripe pears and baked apples mingle with toast, vanilla, and almond nuances. The texture is smooth, and the finish lingers nicely.
