Toshimaya Juemon Junmai Sake 720ml
The excellent Toshimaya brewer is Tokyo’s oldest Sake perveyor of sake. Toshimaya Juemon, opened a sake store and tavern in 1596 in Kamakura on the shores of Sagami Bay. During the Edo era, Toshimaya became popular around selling local sake and serving food – essentially an early Izakaya bar. Toshimaya also sold empty sake barrels to miso paste shops and other customers, which gave the business an additional source of revenue. Toshimaya is said to be the first tavern in Japan. As the business expanded, Toshimaya began trading with the Tokugawa Shogunate and their reputation for selling high quality sake brewed around Kansai grew.
Now the Juemon Sakes are renowned around Japan winning prizes and awards across Japan for their incredible quality and reasonable prices. Their wondefully balanced Junmai is polished to 60% and uses the Hattannishiki varietal. The well balanced fruit driven sake retains incredible acidity offering a lifted and food friendly experience while retaining elegance and roundness. Expect incredible complexity of flavor without the obvious rice driven flavors of some other traditional Junmai. Aromatics of white peach, shiso leaf, mellon and cucumber. The palate is dry and lifted with hints of wild honey and a creamy mouthfilling texture.
