Wasenhaus Spatburgunder Mohlin 2022
Weingut Wasenhaus (or simply “Wasenhaus”) is a wine producer based in the town of Staufen im Breisgau in the Baden region of southwest Germany, best-known for its production of organic Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wines.
The winery was established by Christoph Wolber and Alexander Götze in Wolber’s family farm. Both had extensive experience grapegrowing and winemaking with stellar names in Burgundy (including Pierre Morey, Domaine de Montille, Domaine de la Vougeraie and Comte Armand) prior to returning to Germany to produce their first wines in 2016.
Critical Acclaim
94 James Suckling
This silky, medium-bodied wine shows super-fresh red fruit aromas and floral and herbal complexity. Quite some oak, but it’s beautiful integrated. Then the tannins gently build to an impressive crescendo in the very long finish, where there are stacks of licorice and smoke notes. Drink or hold.
