Wasenhaus Spätburgunder Kanzel 2022

Wasenhaus was formed on hallowed land: Burgundy’s where winemakers Christoph Götze and Alex Wolber met, and Burdundy’s where they spent years making some of the region’s greatest wines (at Comte Armaud, Leflaive, de Montille and Pierre Morey, among others). But when it came time to start their own project, Christoph guided them towards his home — east, toward Baden, Germany. Now, Christoph lives near his family’s farm (also called Wasenhaus), and Alex, who still works as the vineyard manager for Domaine de Montille, commutes from Burgundy, which is just two and a half hours away. One taste will convince you that Baden, in the best years, in the most skilled hands, more than competes with Burgundy. These wines are simply brilliant.

Weingut Wasenhaus (or simply “Wasenhaus”) is a wine producer based in the town of Staufen im Breisgau in the Baden region of southwest Germany, best-known for its production of organic Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wines.

The winery was established by Christoph Wolber and Alexander Götze in Wolber’s family farm. Both had extensive experience grapegrowing and winemaking with stellar names in Burgundy (including Pierre Morey, Domaine de Montille, Domaine de la Vougeraie and Comte Armand) prior to returning to Germany to produce their first wines in 2016.
